A Call for Contributors to the Quack!

A voice cries out in the wilderness, “Slay, Queen!"

Calling all Qatholic artists, creatives, poets, musicians, playwrights, theologians, photographers, storytellers, comedians, writers, opinion-havers and idea-thinkers. I’m inviting all interested queer people of faith to help shape the mission, vision, and scope of this zine. Though the Quack! is grounded in the Catholic tradition and is committed to exploring the unique intersection of queerness and Catholicism, contributors need not be Catholic. Queer creators of faith are encouraged to submit any expressive medium – stories, poems, photos, art pieces, opinions – but works need not be explicitly about faith. Allies of the queer community are welcome to read and enjoy the Quack!, but as a platform by and for queer people, contributors are limited to queer/LGBTQ+-identifying individuals.

Submission Guidelines

  • No content containing hate speech, discriminatory language, or violence will be accepted unless such content engages these concepts critically and with sensitivity​​

  • the Quack! accepts any medium that can reasonably be represented in print and/or digital form. That said, experimentation with form is encouraged - if you have an idea, let us know!

  • Please only submit original work. If your submission does incorporate quotes, art, or outside references, please make sure to cite these.

While these guidelines are subject to change and evolve, here are a few criteria to keep in mind as you craft your submission(s):

Formatting

In the email containing your submission, please include the following:

  • Name, Pen Name (please indicate if you wish to remain anonymous)

  • A short description of your work, what inspired it, and how it relates to the issue's theme (adherence to issue theme is encouraged but not obligatory)

  • For written submissions:

  • For visual/mixed-media submissions 

  • Please attach as a Word doc (.docx) or Google Doc and include any formatting specifications in the email

  • Please attach as a jpeg or .ai document

  • Make sure it fits within the 8.5" x 11" size limit 

  • Bio (Optional)

Please Note: Artists and writers retain full rights to their work. However, in submitting to the zine, you give the Quack! permission to use your work in social media posts, the website, and other promotional materials (unless you specifically request otherwise)
